University of Buea (Cameroon) – Visit of the American Ambassador
Ambassador Christopher J. Lamora was accompanied to the University of Buea by Mr. Ethan Tabor, the Public Affairs Officer. He was received by Professor Ngomo Horace Manga, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Buea and his collaborators. After a brief courtesy meeting in the Vice-Chancellor’s office, the Ambassador was led to the board room of the central administrative building where he was introduced to the Principal Officers of UB (Deputy Vice-Chancellors, the Registrar, Deans and Directors) . In the discussions that followed Ambassador Lamora (who was visiting Buea for the first time) said he was in UB to understand how the U.S Government can help the University especially in academic exchanges.
In his welcome remarks, the Vice-Chancellor acknowledged some of the contributions of the U.S. government to the University: notably the Laboratory for Emerging Infectious Diseases which supports the Ministry of Public Health in Cameroon to diagnose diseases.
The Dean of Health Sciences also discussed how some institutions in the USA have helped in strengthening academic programmes and providing funding to staff.
The last part of Ambassador Lamora’s visit was at the American Corner where he had exchanges with Alumni of U.S sponsored programmes (to know how they are using the skills they acquired from the U.S. to expand the knowledge in their home country.
The Vice-Chancellor thanked the Ambassador for the time spent on campus and his interactions with the staff and beneficiaries of U.S grants.
