Collaborations, Engagements and Partnerships

To achieve the UN Agenda 2030 and its 17 SDGs Particularly Goal 17: Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the Global Partnership for Sustainable Development, WASD is very keen to engage and collaborate very closely with all academic and research institutions in Africa. To this extent, WASD has signed several Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with several universities, research institutions, private sectors and governments from across Africa. These MOUs are non-binding agreements that does not create legal rights or responsibilities and are joint statements of the parties’ desire to collaborate in areas of mutual interest. In these various MOUs, there is is no limit as to what WASD, can collaborate with other institutions across the world. Please explore the various examples of our MOUs and do not hesitate to contact us (admin@africanuniversities.org) if you have any question.

Our various global engagements and partnerships initiatives and activities together with our various partners in Africa and across the world aim to strengthening institutions’ capabilities and capacities and enable them make big decisions. The purpose of our various partnerships is to establish a relationship for interaction between WASD, SDGsUNi and various African institutions. In these partnerships arrangements we plan to explore research and teaching in areas of mutual interest and establish a framework between the parties that will facilitate future interactions. It is anticipated that research and teaching collaborations can be established in areas of mutual interest that are non-proprietary and intended for public dissemination.

On Wednesday 17th August 2022 at the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry (FMD), Queen Mary University of London (QMUL), London, UK, WASD and the Association of African Universities (AAU), Accra, Ghana signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Partnership and Collaboration for Research, Teaching and Capacity Building. Both parties expressed interest in partnership and collaboration on the basis of reciprocity and mutual benefit. The purpose of the MOU is to establish a relationship for interaction between AAU and WASD to explore research in areas of mutual interest and establish a framework that will facilitate future interactions between them. The MOU brings together universities, colleges, research institutes, societies and individuals from across Africa in a global forum to collaborate and reconnect with the discourse of SD via the various activities and initiatives by WASD. The MOU will therefore help universities and research institutions in Africa to play a critical role in enabling their countries to achieve the UN Agenda 2030 and its 17 SDGs.
