Madagascar (University of Toamasina) 3D Print School
Thanks to its collaboration with the American non-profit association “Thinking Huts”, the School of Management and Technological Innovation – EMIT of the University of Fianarantsoa has benefited from the implementation of a pilot construction project school from 3D printing files called “3D PRINT SCHOOL” or ECOLE 3D.
Founded in 2015 by Maggie Grout, “Thinking Huts” is a humanitarian organization whose aim is to respond to the problem of insufficient school infrastructure in Africa by the rapid and sustainable construction of many schools using 3D printer technology. This objective is linked with the fourth Sustainable Development Goal (SDG): quality education.
The first 3D SCHOOL located in Madagascar was built at EMIT. Its construction, officially launched on March 28, 2022, took 18 hours for the printing of the walls (by the COBOD BOD 2 robot) and 12 days for the final installations.
This prototype of the 3D SCHOOL at EMIT will serve as a guide for future constructions of Thinking Huts in Madagascar. And will thus enable them to accomplish their mission in “reducing the global opportunity gap in education”.
