Ghana (Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration) Maiden German GIMPA Information Technology (IT) Competition

An IT competition sponsored by the Delegation of German Industry and Commerce in Ghana (AHK Ghana), Getinnotized, and Azubi Africa, with support from GIMPA, was held at Greenhill campus as part of activities marking the German Week Celebration.

The month of October is set aside by the German Embassy in Ghana as the ‘German Week Celebration’ and is aimed at creating more awareness about Germany in Ghana. The celebration also seeks to deepen the relationship between Ghana and Germany and to highlight German engagement in Ghana.

According to Mr. Burkhardt Hellemann, the head of AHK Ghana, the 21st Century is characterized by digitization. Providing a platform for young people to share ideas in IT was a step in the right direction.

In his welcome address Mr. Benjamin Bubuama, the Junior Assistant Registrar, Directorate of Corporate Affairs & Institutional advancement, GIMPA lauded the organizers for the initiative while wishing the participants well in the task ahead.

A total of 37 applicants were received, out of which four were selected to participate in the competition.

The participants were Mr. Eugene Appertey, a professional photographer, Ms. Dorcas Clement, an intern at the Price Water House Coopers, Ms. Dinatu Kumuriwo Nabonadara an Auditor and Mr. Caleb Poku Ackom, a student at Valley View University.

Each participant was tasked to provide a ten-minute presentation on a chosen topic of their own giving details of how it could be improved using Information Technology.

At the end of the competition, Mr. Eugene Appertey came out as the winner. He received a nine-month free training in Cloud or Data Science from Azubi Africa. He was also given an AHK seminar for a job search in Germany worth 2,000 Euros.

For his price Mr. Ackom, who came out second, also received a three-month training in Cloud or date Science, AHK seminar for a job search in Germany worth 1,000 Euros.

The third and fourth prizes which went to Ms. Clement and Ms. Nabonadara respectively comprised a week’s training in Cloud or data Bootcamp from Azubi Africa and an AHK seminar for a job search in Germany worth 100 Euros.

All four participants received certificates of participation.
