Kenya (Daystar University College) Graduation Chapel Held for the Class of 2022
Another activity that preceded the 45th graduation ceremony was the Graduation Chapel service. This year the graduation chapel took place on Thursday, November 17, 2022 at the Graduation Square Dome, Main Campus Athi River.
The Vice-chancellor, Prof Laban P. Ayiro, led the DVC-Academic, Research and Student Affairs Prof. Faith Nguru, DVC Finance, Administration and Planning Prof. Muturi Wachira, and Chapel Guest Speaker, Rev. Anthony Mwangi (Pastor T) to wash the feet of student representatives of the graduating Class drawn from different programmes.
During the feet-washing ceremony known as Order of the Towel, the University leadership demonstrates to the graduands how they should go out and humbly offer servant leadership to humanity.
In addition to feet washing, each graduand received a towel as a reminder that he/she is a servant in the marketplace.
Speaking at the chapel service, Pastor T urged graduands to go out and impact the world, saying they should not display mediocrity because they are born again. He further advised the graduands to ensure that their values are louder than their appetites. “Step out knowing that God is releasing you as salt and light to season the world,” he said.
The Vice-chancellor urged the graduands to endeavor to bring out their best.
“You will fail to have positive impact if you allow yourself to run away from our Christ-centredness,” he said, further urging the graduands to let go the desire to control others, so that they can control their focus.
During the graduation chapel service, the Nursing graduands observed their candle lighting and pinning ceremony, done in honour of Florence Nightingale, founder of the nursing profession. The pinning ceremony symbolically welcomes graduating nurses to the profession, upon reciting the Nightingale pledge, which is a statement of ethics and principles of nursing profession.
With all these ceremonies completed, the graduands were ready to go out and exercise the Daystar University ethos of excellence, transformation and Servant leadership.
